The receiving process isn’t always as smooth as scanning inventory items in and putting them away in your warehouse. At times, the invoice won’t match the purchase order. The vendor may accidentally put too many or too few goods in a shipping carton, or the vendor might charge a different price for each unit than you agreed to pay when you created the purchase order. If the total cost on the invoice you receive is different than the amount of money on the purchase order you issued, you’ve got a problem. That is what reconciliation is for.
